Why Water is so Important…

kangen water glass

Well, let’s start with…

  • 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. ( This probably applies to half the world’s population.)
  • In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
  • Even mild dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 3%.
  • One glass of water will shut down hunger pains for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study.
  • Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
  • Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
  • A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
  • Drinking just 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%… plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

I read this statement from a blog I was reading recently that said “For the body to function properly, it must be hydrated properly. Moreover, the qualities and properties of the water we drink can determine the quality of our health.”

Water adjusts the body’s temperature and assists indigestion. It removes toxins from the body and also makes necessary body fluids. The chemical reaction that supports life takes place in a water medium, with water being an important reaction or product of these reactions.

  1. The adult human body is made up of 60-75% water.
  2. The brain is made up of about 80-85% water.
  3. Blood, which carries nutrients and oxygen through the body, is about 90% water.

Our brains are approximately 80-85% water. Keep in mind that when we are born our bodies are 90% water and 10% matter. As an aging adult, our bodies begin losing water, dehydration sets in, and hydration falls to about 70% water and 30% matter. Upon death, the body is only 50% water! In reality, we die of dehydration!

To prevent diaper rash begin by making certain that your baby is properly hydrated with pH 8.5-9.5 Alkaline Drinking Water. Next, replace baby wipes with a container filled with soft cloths or unbleached paper towels and Mild Acidic Water. Use to cleanse diaper area each time you change your baby, pat dry and then apply a very fine mist to the skin. This assists in keeping the pH of the skin balanced.

Caution—Step Away From The Antiperspirant: Sweat is one of your body’s natural methods for ridding itself of toxins, so stopping that natural function can create a serious backlash in your lymphatic system. Odors are simply bacteria thriving in the dark, damp area. So to stop the odor simply mist with pH 2.5 Strong Acid Water. If you tend to sweat a lot keep a small spray bottle in your purse or desk drawer for occasional touch-ups throughout the day.

Getting Started Drinking Kangen™ Water: It is recommended that everyone who chooses to drink Kangen™ water start by drinking the 8.5 pH water. The Kangen™ water is obtained by pushing the blue button on the front of the machine. Multiple pushes will move you through the three different levels of the Kangen™ water that are produced. This water is dispensed through the TOP flexible hose. Drink at least ½ of your body weight in ounces each day. If you do physically demanding work, participate in strenuous athletics, or are dealing with “sickness issues”…you need to drink more Kangen™ water to help your body move towards and achieve homeostasis. In these situations, it is recommended that you drink at least ¾ of your body weight in ounces, and drinking 1 ounce per pound of body weight per day produces real “miracles”. It is my observation that those people who drink a minimum of ¾ of their body weight in ounces of Kangen™ water per day see the quickest results. After successfully drinking the suggested amount of 8.5 pH water for two weeks (“successfully” means that you are not experiencing any discomfort while drinking the water…other than the frequency of urination), then you may choose to increase the water pH level up to the 9.0 pH setting. Continue drinking the suggested amount of water at this setting each day for at least two more weeks. After successfully drinking the suggested amount of 9.0 pH water (again meaning that you are not experiencing any discomfort while drinking the water other than frequency of urination) then you may choose to increase the water pH level up to the 9.5 pH setting.

CLEANSING SYMPTOMS:

Occasionally we find people that experience “cleansing” symptoms. These are typically caused by the body releasing stored toxins and acidic wastes. If you experience any “cleansing” types of symptoms (such as headaches, skin eruptions, loose bowels, coughing, etc.) when you start on the 8.5 pH water, then you should increase the amount of water you are drinking to help neutralize and flush the toxins from your system. If you experience these symptoms after increasing the pH of the water you are consuming, then go back to the last pH setting that you were able to drink without experiencing these symptoms and increase the amount of water that you consume until these symptoms stop. If the reaction gets too severe, one should back off of the pH but INCREASE the volume of water ingested.

I am a Weekly Grocery Shopper

vegetables

I am constantly grocery shopping to keep up with fresh foods.

I changed the way I eat drastically in a way. I’ve always loved healthy foods and it was not hard to eat healthy so I thought. I just wasn’t doing it the right way. All my meals always had a carb and a protein together. Therefore making it a catalyst meal in my stomach which made acid break it all down. I was constantly overeating and maybe only eating 3 or 4 times a day. I was getting nowhere and feeling sicker.

Once I changed my meals, to just carbs or just protein I no longer was eating things out of a box! That was a huge deal for me. Most foods that come out of a box or can have a lot of additives and preserves. I needed to be eating fresh clean foods that have a lot of nutrients to heal my damaged digestive tract. It was not easy! I slowly worked my way into it and now look 3 months later I am finally having very little pain. About a week or two ago I started to bring fresh meats back into my diet and I am slowly switching back over to high protein and veggies and very little carbs.

Without even knowing what I was doing I started shopping an “Urban” style of shopping.

You’re probably wondering what I am talking about so I’ll explain a little to you. First, off this style of shopping mostly came from Europe because of a higher percentage of people live in urban settings then America. We are pretty spread out here in America, making it harder to go to the grocery store every day or a couple of times a week. Think of it as a health investment though! Don’t look at it as a chore look at it as an investment in your health! By shopping more, even if it is every Saturday or Sunday to get your fresh foods. You are saving money by not letting anything go to waste. Also, something I found that works well is to buy the markdown foods on there sell-by date making them cheaper and Ill cook them that day.

When it comes to grocery shopping for me there are some veggies I always keep stocked in the house!

I love these veggies because I can make a lot of meals with them. They are Kale, spinach, zucchini, fresh garlic, onion, portabella mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, spaghetti squash, and red potatoes. It sounds like a lot but I have found that if I always keep those ingredients stocked I’m good to go. I probably stop 3 times a week at the local grocery store, to pick up fresh meats or anything I might need for the meals I’m making. You may be thinking that’s crazy I don’t have time for that and I don’t really either what so ever! I have made it a lifestyle habit to always have fresh foods in my house. Working in town or close to town allows me to stop on my way home from work to pick up whatever I may need. My health comes the first-period end of story.

You don’t always have to go to the grocery store and spend over 100$. I use to do that just because I wanted to stay stocked up. By doing that I bought too many vegetables, which ended in a lot of them going bad because I didn’t get to them in time. I had plenty of other foods to cook. I came up with a way to try to not waste any foods in my fridge. When I start to run out of food Ideas I will go on Pinterest and look up recipes with food that I have in my house, then I tweak the recipe to what I have in my house. Its been working really well lately. It also helps save you money and get your fridge cleaned out before anything goes to waste. Then I go grocery shopping and stock up with all my basic ingredients.

You will learn what works for your lifestyle and what doesn’t just like I’m doing. Don’t be scared to try new things and give your self an hour or two a day to make your food. The only way to eat clean and healthy is to prepare your own foods.

I look at it as investing in your self! You are worth it!

Hopefully, you found some of this information helpful.

I would love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to leave questions and comments. I’m always posting the food I make on Instagram.

My Acne Story

Cystic Facial Acne

Cystic acne is an advanced and often times painful type of acne that many teenagers and adults can suffer from. I’ll be sharing with you some tips and tricks for fighting Cystic Acne.

“This post contains affiliate links for your convenience.”

The LEFT June 10th 2016 and the RIGHT is December 10th 2015 exactly 7 months apart…

First off, you get a pimple when a pore in your skin gets clogged, usually with dead skin cells. Sometimes bacteria can get trapped inside the pore, too, causing the area to become red and swollen. Any type of friction on the skin can also cause acne (my glasses do that to me on my nose). Cystic acne happens when this infection goes deep into your skin, creating a red, tender bump that’s full of pus & blood. It may hurt or itch. If a cyst bursts, the infection can spread, causing more breakouts. That’s why we don’t pick and squeeze at a pimple.

Unfortunately, I was a victim of cystic acne for many many years and I had tried everything from topical creams and cleansers (benzoyl peroxide, tetracycline, salicylic acid) to over-the-counter pills. Sadly, none of them worked for me! I never tried the pills long enough for them to work due to my stomach issues. The creams and cleansers dried my skin up SO much that I started to look like a shedding snake. Aside from the fact that my face looked like a volcano about to erupt, now I had the pleasure of scaly and shedding skin. No Thank You!

I became so interested in fixing my acne problem that I went to school to become aesthetician to learn more about the skin. That’s where I met an amazing acne specialist who helped me figure out stubborn acne! Everyone’s acne journey could be different not all acne can be treated the same! I’m just going to be sharing about cystic acne today! No one should have to live with cystic acne.

Tips & tricks for fighting Cystic Acne, things I changed and now avoid!

  • Only OIL FREE products touch my face.
  • OIL FREE make up
  • OIL FREE moisturizers
  • Change your pillowcase every other night (I flip the pillow the night in between)
  • When talking on the phone don’t let it rest on your face. (Friction and bacteria will cause acne to appear)
  • Birth control…it can help your acne or make it worse so pay close attention to your body ( I use Sprintec I think its a good birth control all around)
  • You have to cut back on sugars! Even sugars in your carbs.
  • Dairy Free is great! It helps with a lot! (I do eat hard block cheeses every now and then)
  • Sulfate-Free in your shampoo and conditioner
  • Change toothpaste if you’re always breaking out around your mouth. (Sensodyne toothpaste is what I use)
  • Also, chapsticks clog a lot of pores around the mouth. (100% pure petroleum jelly I swear by it for chapstick now)
  • Don’t pick at anything on your face let everything come out naturally.
  • If you can get professional acne facials done once a month or every other anything’s better then nothing.

Morning Routine

  • Wake up, and wash your face with a gentle, mild cleanser that is free of alcohol and parabens. I use a purifying foaming cleanser by Believe that is sulfate and paraben free, but you can use any type of gentle cleanser that is already working for you. Using harsh anti-acne cleansers that contain salicylic acid or other strong ingredients can draw more oil in also dry out your skin too much.
  • Pat your skin dry with a clean towel. I made sure to buy a big stack of face towels so I’m always using a clean one. If you have some pimples that have come to a yellow head, after a hot steamy shower you may press on the pimple and drag the towel lightly across if its ready the pimple will extract its self if don’t force it.
  • Using a cotton pad, dab a good toner all over your face and/or wherever you may have cystic acne. I like to make my own with some Georges Liquid Aloe Vera Drink and ¼ witch hazel. This stuff is SO good; I like to keep it in the fridge when I was really inflamed! (ICE really inflamed areas to bring swelling down) It helped soothe my skin. I now use a balancing toner by Believe which is an aloe based. Toner is great to rebalance the skins ph. levels also to clean up anything that was left behind but makes sure not to get anything too harsh and to striping (just plain witch hazel, way to harsh). Another good toner is Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera.
  • Once the toner has dried, I apply my 2.5% face reality acne med. which is benzoyl peroxide.
  • Last, if you need it put an oil-free moisturizer on. (I only used moisturizer once a day in the winter when I was going through this processes) I now use moisturizer every morning some nights if I feel it’s needed.

Night Routine

  • Remove any makeup! (You may use an oil free make up remover just watch for irritation if your skin is sensitive)
  • Wash your face with a gentle, mild cleanser that is free of alcohol and paraben. I use the same one I use in the morning.
  • If you’re like me and sweat a lot when you work out you need something to help draw out impurities. I use charcoal detox soap only when I need it. It can be drying but it is great!!! (Old Fort Soap Company in Fort Wayne has a good one).
  • Toner just like the morning.
  • Then put on 5% face reality acne med. which is benzoyl peroxide. (I also use Believes Acne PM-5 same thing as the face reality’s acne med.)
  • Let acne med dry for at least 10 minutes then put on an oil-free moisturizer.

June 21st, 2017 No Make Up!!!

I didn’t talk much about exfoliation because your skin is in a sensitive state right now. I highly suggest going to a professional once a month to get an acne treatment facial. Where they will give you the exfoliation you need. Once you have most of your breakouts under control then you can start doing an antioxidant scrub once or twice a week for your exfoliation.

Again this is what worked for ME, so it may not necessarily work for you. This didn’t happen overnight either! My acne got worse for a couple months before it got better. ( Also, keep in mind skin allergies; sometimes we don’t know we are allergic to something. You know your body best. Watch for rashes, red bumps that are not pimples, and too much dryness a little is okay at first.

I am not a dermatologist just a regular girl who has suffered from cystic acne, but I do hope this helps you!
